Provigil

Will Provigil Help You Sleep Better?

I only ask that question to make sure you are paying attention. If you are researching Provigil, sleeping is the last thing you are worried about. If you are looking for sleep aids this is definitely not the product you are looking for and you can navigate away from my finely crafted review with my understanding and blessing.

Provigil (modafinil) is a prescription drug made by Cephalon, Inc. which is meant to improve wakefulness in adults suffering from excessive sleepiness (ES). There are several known causes of ES, but those individuals suffering from ES as a result of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), shift work sleep disorder or narcolepsy, may want to consider talking to their doctor about Provigil. Provigil is thought to work by altering certain neurotransmitters in the brain inducing a sense of alertness when you are awake.

Provigil Ingredients

When I think of ingredients, I think of flour in a cake or spices in a casserole, not chemical compounds with names I can’t even pronounce; but I don’t know what else you would call the different compounds that make up a prescription drug, so I’ll stick with Ingredients. Provigil is the brand name for the chemical compound Modafinil which has the chemical name 2-[(diphenylmethyl)sulfinyl]acetamide. Each pill also contains varying amounts of: armodafinil, croscarmellose sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone and pregelatinized starch.

Provigil Side Effects

If you are allergic to modafinil, armodafinil, croscarmellose sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, or pregelatinized starch you should not take Provigil. You should also avoid contact with Provigil if you have or have had mitral valve prolapsed syndrome. Some users have reported chest pain, depression, anxiety, hallucinations, psychosis, mania, thoughts of suicide, aggression, and other mental problems, in which case you would have to stop taking PROVIGIL and call your doctor right away to get emergency treatment. Provigil is also not safe for children and can affect your mental functions so caution should be used while driving or operating any kind of machinery.

The preceding side effects are worst case scenarios but the following are the most common side effects of Provigil:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Nervousness
  • Stuffy nose
  • Diarrhea
  • Back pain
  • Anxiety
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness
  • Upset stomach

Provigil Value

The final price of a prescription drug varies depending on insurance plans, generic or brand name, dosage and about a hundred other unknown factors. If you are paying out of pocket a prescription can cost you several hundred dollars. Whether or not that is worth the expense may depend on the severity of your condition.

Provigil Bottom Line

I don’t like to make strong recommendations for prescription products because I am not a doctor. I do know you should consider all of your medication options carefully before choosing a prescription drug due to all the negative side effects and unforeseen risks. Researching the product and reading reviews is a good place to start but eventually whether or not you use Provigil should be a question decided by you and your physician.
