Natural Calm

Will Natural Calm help you Sleep Better?

It may not directly help you sleep, but if it lives up to the claims, it certainly wouldn’t keep you from sleeping. Natural Calm is magnesium in a special ionized powder that is easily diluted in water to make what they call a stress relieving drink. Natural Calm claims you need to take magnesium because of the delicate balance maintained between it and calcium on a cellular level. These two important elements function much like your body’s on/off switch. Calcium excites nerves, while magnesium calms them down. Calcium makes muscles contract. Magnesium is necessary for muscles to relax. Calcium is needed for blood clotting, but magnesium keeps the blood flowing freely, and so on. Thus, if you are deficient in magnesium, your body stays in the “on” position which makes it hard to relax is the basic sales pitch.

Natural Calm Ingredients and Research

It would make my job a little easier if I had more to go on here but basically what you see is what you get. Natural Calm is magnesium. The proprietary method of ionizing the powder so it more easily bonds with water, and is subsequently absorbed more rapidly by the cells, is the only other twist in the story. The suggested serving size of 2 teaspoons gives you a total of 325 mg of magnesium. They recommend you start with a lower dose and slowly increase depending on your need. You’ll know when you take too much because it will cause stomach discomfort or diarrhea, although you might want to stop a little short of that point.

Natural Calm Side Effects

If you eat too much ice cream you are going to get a stomach ache. Your mom was right then and she’s still right today. If you get too much of a good thing your body won’t like it. Common side effects reported by users of Natural Calm are the typical gastro-intestinal problems of cramping and diarrhea. There have also been reports of muscle cramping in rare cases.

Natural Calm Value

The retail price of a 16 oz bottle of Natural Calm is right around $38 but most places offer it at $27 or so. The company claims that is enough for 14 to 16 weeks depending on consumption. There are a number of supplements out there that are supposed to relieve stress and are close to the same cost but Natural Calm is the only one giving you magnesium and nothing else.

Natural Calm Bottom Line

If you need more magnesium in your diet Natural Calm is one way to get it. They claim their proprietary powder is more easily absorbed but you should weigh the benefits of that against the increased cost over a simple magnesium pill or multivitamin. As far as a sleep aid goes, it doesn’t really qualify but if they can make good on their claims it could help relax you enough to help with sleep. For this site’s purpose’s, there are probably better options I would more likely recommend.
